Metering service request
Submit a request for suite metering, additional meters and more.
Steps involved in the process for adding, removing or consolidating meter(s)
Fill out and submit your service request through our Metering Request Online Form.
We recommend providing us with all relevant documentation at the time of your online submission to help prevent any delays in processing. In the event that documents are unavailable at the time of submission, they can also be submitted at a later date directly to your assigned Toronto Hydro representative, as they become available.
One of our representatives will contact you within 15 business days to review your project details and confirm the scope of work.
Once we’ve received all the required project information, a representative may provide a Job Quotation, depending on your project. The Job Quotation specifies project details, timelines and financial requirements to proceed with the service request.
If you’re requesting to add or remove a meter, we’ll also provide you with an Isolation Consent Form that must be signed by the Toronto Hydro account owner and returned to us.
Sign and return the Job Quotation (along with all required payments and information), and the Isolation Consent Form, as instructed in the documents.
Contact us through our online form, or by calling 416-542-8000, to notify our Customer Care team of the changes to your account/service.
Once the agreement is fully signed, we’ll work together to confirm the date and time that a crew will attend to execute your metering request. Temporary power disruptions may be required, which range from approximately 15 minutes to a few hours, depending on the project.
We'll complete the work with as little disruption to residents as possible.
Note: Toronto Hydro may change any part of this process at its sole discretion.
Steps involved in the suite metering request process
Fill out and submit your request through our Suite Metering Request Online Form.
We recommend providing us with all available documentation related to your request at the time of your online submission.
One of our representatives will contact you within 15 business days to review your project details and provide a suite metering checklist for the project.
The suite metering checklist will be used to help us prepare a preliminary Toronto Hydro Suite Metering Agreement for your review. The Toronto Hydro Suite Metering Agreement is a non-binding agreement until executed, but allows you to review the terms and conditions set out in the agreement.
Complete your suite metering checklist and email it to suitemeters@torontohydro.com.
We’ll arrange a site visit to complete an initial assessment to determine if Toronto Hydro suite metering is right for your project.
After the initial assessment is reviewed and approved, it’s time to execute the Suite Metering Agreement provided by us in step two. Once you’ve had the agreement signed by the developer or condo board, we’ll return a fully executed version for your records.
Once the agreement has been executed, you’ll need to provide us with the building’s occupancy list so we can set up individual accounts for each submeter. All individually metered tenants become direct customers of Toronto Hydro.
We’ll meter your common areas such as hallways, lobbies, garages and HVAC systems separately and bill them based on their metered consumption. This can help lower and better predict operating expenses and reduce common area maintenance fees.
Temporary power disruptions will be required in order to install your suite metering system. We offer scheduling flexibility so that we can complete the conversion at a convenient time with relatively little disruption.
Once the date and time is decided, we’ll provide a planned power outage notice for the developer, condo board or property manager to share with their residents. Typically, units will be impacted for the amount of time it takes to install all of the submeters associated with its corresponding distribution panel. This ranges from approximately 15 minutes to a few hours, depending on the number of units fed from the panel.
On your scheduled service date, we’ll complete the free suite metering installation with as little disruption to building residents as possible. The suite metering system is usually installed in electrical closets in the hallways of your building.
As part of the installation process, Toronto Hydro (or a licensed subcontractor) will require access to each individual unit to test that it’s been assigned to the correct submeter.
Building residents will receive a copy of their Toronto Hydro bill approximately two weeks prior to the payment due date.
Note: Toronto Hydro may change any part of this process at its sole discretion.
