Steps for connecting non-residential EV charging stations
Step 1: Request a preliminary consultation with Toronto Hydro (optional)
Request a preliminary consultation with Toronto Hydro by completing an Electric Vehicle Consultation Information Request (EVPCIR) (PDF, 117 KB) and submitting it through email to EV@torontohydro.com.
This consultation is an optional step, and is especially helpful for customers exploring the feasibility of:
- A specific site connection prior to committing to an EV charging station installation
- Multiple potential site connections for EV charging stations
Note: If a customer has already decided on one or more specific locations for non-residential EV charging stations, the preliminary consultation may offer limited benefits and could potentially extend the overall duration of the connection process.
Ready to submit your EVPCIR form? Email it to us at EV@torontohydro.com.
Step 2: Receive an Electric Vehicle Preliminary Consultation Report (EVPCR) from Toronto Hydro
Within 15 calendar days of receiving the EVPCIR, Toronto Hydro will provide you with an Electric Vehicle Preliminary Consultation Report (EVPCR), which includes the following information:
- A high-level capacity assessment at the connection point
- Information about whether a service upgrade is expected to be required in order to provide the requested connection capacity
- An assessment of the expected complexity of the connection
- Any additional information Toronto Hydro may have regarding the feasibility of the site(s) and/or charging station installation(s)
Note: The EVPCR is non-binding and for informational purposes only.
Step 3: Submit a service connection request to Toronto Hydro
You can submit your EV charging station installation request directly to Toronto Hydro through our Service Connections hub.
For a more detailed overview of this process, please refer to our Conditions of Service (Reference 9 – Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Connection Requirements for Toronto Hydro Customers).
